Improve Road Worker Safety with “Asset Safe Taper”
14 March 2017
Initial trials on the M1 have seen potential cost and life-saving results for road workers and users on the approach of highway maintenance works.
A spokesperson for BAM, Nuttall Morgan Sindall Joint Venture on the M1, junctions 39 to 42, stated that, “the bar has been raised with the “ASSET Safe Taper”. Building on the ventures M62 5 point plan we are ensuring continual improvement in ‘closing the gap’ on road worker exposure to live traffic. Bam Nuttall Morgan Sindall continue to work closely with ASSET International VRS, part of the Hill and Smith Group, to develop VARIOGUARD® for use in chicane or taper areas. ASSET Internationals’ Temporary Vehicle Restraint systems are able to accommodate traffic lamps and have alternate red and white covers across the top beam which makes the barrier more conspicuous when used in taper/chicane zones. In return, this removes the need for the road worker to maintain traffic cones in the most hazardous areas of roadwork schemes.
The trial on the M1 has shown improved road worker safety by removing the high-risk and high-cost element of maintaining coned tapers and signage at the entrance to works.
ASSET International VRS pride themselves on providing safe solutions to road workers with a range of fully approved, tested and certified barrier systems. These additional products are specifically designed and manufactured by ASSET International for their vehicle restraint systems and can be applied to the works area providing additional safety and cost benefits.
